It’s Not You, It’s Me!

“It’s not you, it’s me!” No, I’m not rehearsing a breakup. I’m just making time for me! Who said a nice evening at home can’t be spent alone? Yes, it’s the week of Valentines and lovebirds are all around, but don’t get caught up in the hype and forget about yourself!

Plan a date for yourself! Go about it the same way you would, if you were planning a date for your significant other.  Whether it’s a romantic night with a glass of champs, nice pj’s, and a good book, or a night on the town, make time for you! You don’t have to be single to do this, nor do you have to go out alone. Get a group of your favorite girls and have a ‘Galentines’ celebration! We all know, being in a relationship is not easy. We focus so much on pleasing our partners, that sometimes we lose ourselves. I’m pretty sure the more titles we carry (wife, mother, employer, domestic CEO, etc.), the less time we have to think about things like this! How hard is it to articulate how need to be loved, if you don’t know what that looks like, right?!

Not sure where to start? Start small. Make a list of things you never have time to do or things you wish someone would do for you, like:

  1. Write a love note to yourself.
  2. Paint your nails.
  3. Cook dinner or order takeout.
  4. Use your nicest dinnerware and stemware.
  5. Take a nice, hot bubble bath.
  6. Tap into your inner Beyoncé! ;) – Pull out your “freakum dress!”

**BONUS: Use the same strategy for your boo! (You can thank me later)!**

Whatever you decide to do to celebrate Valentine’s, LOVE YOURSELF! Okay, gotta go take my own advice!!!
